Brian was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court in Victoria in 1967 and signed the Roll of Counsel at the Victorian Bar in 1971.
He has appeared in criminal matters in all Victorian jurisdictions, including Supreme Court trials and bail applications. He has also been admitted to practice in New South Wales, Western Australia and Tasmania as well as in the High Court of Australia and all federal jurisdictions.
In 1976 he and Robert Galbally established a joint practice - Galbally Rolfe - which has for many years since enjoyed a reputation as one of the leading providers of advice and representation in court and criminal matters throughout Australia. The practice acts for the defence in major criminal law prosecutions at both state and federal level.
Brian regularly appears in Court in all jurisdictions and has a particular specialisation in the areas of large and complex cases and in the provision of strategic advice.
